Withdrawal from the College and Request for Leave of Absence

Students who plan to stop attending classes before the last day to withdraw with a grade of a W should complete the Withdrawal from the College or Leave of Absence Application form. Tuition, fees, and financial assistance adjustments are determined based on the date the withdrawal form is received in the Office of the Dean of Students or the leave of absence form is received in the Office of the Registrar.

A Withdrawal from the College means the student is ending their enrollment at Meredith College before the semester is over and does not plan to return within the next 180 days. Students who withdraw from the College must apply for readmission if they wish to return in a future semester.
A Leave of Absence allows students to temporarily step away from Meredith College while planning to return within 180 days. Students approved for a Leave of Absence remain active students and do not need to apply for readmission if they return within the approved leave period.
Stopping attendance is not the same as officially withdrawing or taking a leave of absence from the College. Students who stop attending classes without submitting the Withdrawal from the College or Leave of Absence Application Form will remain enrolled and will receive the final grades earned in their courses. Simply not attending class does not remove a student from their classes or cancel their enrollment.

Official withdrawal is effective only after the required request has been submitted and processed by the College.

Withdrawal from the College

Students who wish to end their enrollment at Meredith College need to complete the Withdrawal from the College Form.

Please Note:

During the first five class days (add/drop period)
Students who withdraw from the college during the first five class days of the semester
- Will be dropped from all registered courses
- Said courses will not appear on their academic transcript
After the first five class days
Students who withdraw after the add/drop period but on or before the published last day to drop a course with a W:
- Will receive a grade of W in all ungraded courses
  - A grade of W does not affect the GPA
  - A grade of W counts as attempted credit hours and may affect financial aid eligibility and satisfactory academic progress
After the withdrawal deadline
If the deadline to withdraw with a grade of W has passed, students must use the Petition for Withdrawal from the College after the Published Deadline to Withdraw form. Late withdrawals are considered only for documented medical or other extraordinary circumstances.

Application for Re-Admission

A student who has withdrawn from the College must submit an application for readmission to re-enter the College. Students who receive an approved leave of absence will remain as active students and do not need to reapply for readmission to return to the College if returning within 180 days of their approved leave.

Leave of Absence Request

A currently enrolled student may apply for a Leave of Absence for up to 180 days (typically one semester) without having to apply for readmission, provided they are in good academic, social, and financial standing at Meredith.

Students are considered to be in good standing if they:

Academic Standing: Are not on Academic Recovery or Academic Suspension at the end of the term in which they apply for the leave.
Social Standing: Do not have a social standing hold from the Office of the Dean of Students on their student record for not completing a required sanction or having a pending student conduct case. Students on suspension, delay of graduation, or who have been expelled are also not considered to be in good social standing.
Financial Standing: Have paid all tuition, fees, and other charges in full.

Students who meet these eligibility requirements may submit a Leave of Absence Request Form.

Please note that submission of a request does not guarantee approval.

A student on leave of absence who does not re-enroll within the allotted leave time will be officially withdrawn from the College. Students who are withdrawn or who do not comply with the leave of absence policy must complete the readmission process outlined in the Undergraduate Catalogue.

Please Note: Undergraduate students who plan to take courses at another institution while on a leave of absence from Meredith College must complete the Application for Off-Campus Credit Form, obtain all required approvals, and submit the completed form to the Office of the Registrar at Meredith before enrolling in those courses.

Resident Student Impact

A student who withdraws or receives an approved leave of absence from the College and lives on campus is expected to vacate their residence room or apartment within 48 hours or through arrangement with Residence Life. They must also return any college loaned equipment issued during their attendance.

Students who cease attendance in registered classes and fail to turn in either the withdrawal form or the leave of absence request will receive the calculated final grades earned at the end of the semester.

Involuntary Withdrawal

Involuntary Course Withdrawal: The College may immediately remove, suspend, or restrict a student from any class for significant disruption.
