This course is designed to introduce students to the science of astronomy and its importance as an influence on our view of humanity and our place in the universe. Topics include the history
of astronomy, the motion of celestial objects, models of the solar system, planetology, stars,
cosmology, and life in the universe. Conceptual comprehension of basic astronomy is reinforced
through class discussions, group activities, and student presentations. Spatial models and mathematical principles of motion are emphasized within the context of solar system models.
