The Pre-Art Therapy major is designed for those students who wish to combine a strong interest and technical proficiency in the visual arts and Psychology. Students in this program may plan to complete a graduate degree in art therapy, or similar, with the intention of a career as an art therapist, or explore other options in art, psychology, social work, counseling and education. While an undergraduate degree alone does not lead to professional certification as an art therapist, this program equips students with the necessary prerequisites for graduate-level art therapy programs. Students are encouraged to begin the program in their freshman year to fulfill the art, psychology and education course requirements in a timely manner.
